Send Mini Grant Notes and Photos
We appreciate receiving notes and photos about the success of your mini grant projects. Here is one we love from criminal justice teacher Brandon Ferrell of Sullivan North High School.
Mr. Tollett,
First of all, I want to thank you and your organization for generously donating the funds to make this grant possible. I know that through your generosity many students will gain the equipment needed to further their knowledge and understanding in various subjects across the state. Personally, I don’t know how I could meet the required standards for Criminal Justice III without the equipment that your organization provided. With the $4720 grant, I was able to purchase the following items:
– Digital Forensic Evidence Examination Station $3995
– Master Hard-Core Blue and Liquid Silicone Casting Kit $268.95
– All-Purpose Evidence Recovery Kit $250
– Gunpowder Particle Detection Kit $102.45
With this equipment, I was able to stage a simulated crime scene in which one of my students was a suspect. The other students worked the case and processed the physical evidence left behind by
the suspect. The dusted for latent fingerprints and lifted the recovered prints with the Accutrans gel
system (which is part of the All-Purpose Evidence Recovery Kit). They ultimately developed a suspect and obtained fingerprints from him for comparison. With the Digital Forensic Evidence Examination Station, the investigators were able to accurately identify the suspect through fingerprint comparison.
This equipment has allowed the students to actually see how crimes are solved using microscopic analysis of evidence. They can not only process crime scenes, they can do analysis of hair, soil, gunshot residue, fingerprints, shoe prints, tire prints, handwriting, etc. in a lab setting. Thank you so
much for providing this opportunity for my students. Attached are just a few photographs of our most recent use of this equipment.
